Quirkycats Competition:
The theme of the SimplyCats QuirkyCats 2008 Competition, in association with SimplyCats Feline only Vet Clinic and sponsored by ————–. Entry to the Competition is free. Please ensure you complete all fields on the entry form and that you have read the terms and conditions before submitting your entry, as all entrants are deemed to have accepted the competition rules and are bound by them.

Acceptable Formats: txt, word files or open office formats are all acceptable
For Images, Upload Your Photograph, using the Web Form on the website: Acceptable formats are JPEG, gif and png only Maximum file size 2MB.

SimplyCats 2009 QuirkyCats COMPETITION, TERMS & CONDITIONS
GUIDELINES :
Entry to the competition is free. Each entry must reflect the theme of ‘QuirkyCats‘ You may use the following digital adjustments to optimise digital images: levels, curves, brightness, contrast, shadow and highlight levels, saturation, sharpening and noise reduction, and selected burning or shading. Cropping is allowed. Any other techniques or filters, including combinations of images for any reason are not acceptable. As well as technical ability the judges will be looking for originality and interpretation of the theme. Please read the following before submitting your entry. All entrants are deemed to have accepted these rules and agreed to be bound by them.
ENTRY RULES The information below refers to the 2009 QuirkyCats Competition sponsored —————–, which launches in January 2009. Entries are invited to the QuirkyCats 2009 Competition (Amateurs) for the theme of Quirkycats. Only one entry per individual is allowed. Each entry shall consist of one photograph, poem or story. Junior entries must be the work of the competition entrant and without assistance from an adult.
Format Pictures:Acceptable images: scanned colour or black & white prints and digital photographs. No allowances will be made for poor-quality scanning. Acceptable formats: save images as JPEG at the highest possible quality setting (e.g. 12 in Photoshop). Do not send original prints or negatives - they may be called upon in the event of a photo being short-listed. Ensure all originals are available. Ideally Images should be sufficiently high resolution to be printed, without loss of quality, to A3 exhibition standard - as a guideline your camera will have to be 5MP or higher. The judges’ decision on quality is final. Images that have been manipulated digitally (see guidelines) are not acceptable. Stories: Acceptable Formats: txt, word files or open office formats are all acceptableLabelling All entries must be submitted on line using the entry form, completed in full with the entrant’s name, e-mail address and a brief caption (e.g. subject and location) for the photograph, video or story. Categories Categories of entry are:
- Adult’ - over 16 years of age
- Junior (a)’ - 12 to 16 years of age
- Junior (b)’ - 11 years of age and under
Judges These will be appointed by SimplyCats. The judges’ decision on all matters relating to the competition is final, and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the competition’s judging and organisation. Should the quality of the entries fall below the standard required, SimplyCats reserve the right not to award prizes. Notification Finalists will be notified in May 2009. Winners and runners-up will be announced by E-mail to all participants and the results will be published on the SimplyCats website. Prizes Each of the three age category winners and the category runners up will win a prize to be announced shortly No alternative, cash or otherwise, will be given for any prizes.
Closing date Entries must be received by 1st April 2009. Restrictions Employees of SimplyCats are excluded.
Copyright You warrant that:
(a) you are the sole author and owner of the copyright for all images, stories or videos entered; and
(b) the submissions you submit shall not infringe the rights of any third parties By submitting your entry , you undertake to indemnify SimplyCats and the competition sponsors for any losses arising from a breach of points (a) and (b) above. All copyright and title to all entered submissions remains with you in its entirety. However, you grant SimplyCats and the competition sponsors non-exclusive royalty free, irrevocable license rights to use the photographs for any purpose including, but not limited to, the following purposes:
- inclusion with the SimplyCats newsletter
- inclusion with SimplyCats Congress promotional publications
- promotion of and publicity for this competition in the future (where possible, appropriate credits will be given)
- display at the SimplyCats Vet Practice of the winning and commended entries
- use on merchandise to be sold by SimplyCats or the sponsors to raise funds for a cat related charity
- the right to sub-license the use of the photographs.
Use of Images of Children and Adults
SimplyCats are committed to ensuring that personal data received in the course of this competition is protected, Pictures of persons including children with their pets could be submitted as meeting the theme of ‘quirkycats. SimplyCats take the use of personal data especially images of children seriously and have data protection policies in place for the handling of all personal data including such images of children. Please read this policy for further details. If your entry photograph contains images of children and/or adults, you must ensure that explicit permission (preferably those in writing) by the persons whose images appear in the photograph have been given for their images to be entered in this competition as well as the purposes which their images would be used namely:
- inclusion within the SimplyCats newsletter, and Website
- inclusion within SimplyCats Congress promotional publications
- promotion of and publicity for this competition in the future
- display at the SimplyCats practice of the winning and commended entries
- use on merchandise to be sold by SimplyCats or the sponsors to raise funds for a cat related charity
If requested by SimplyCats, you undertake to provide SimplyCats with the contact details of the person whose image appears in your entry photograph to enable SimplyCats to ensure that permission has been obtained from them. SimplyCats policy on the use of images containing children or young person up to the age of 18 SimplyCats may receive unsolicited or invited pictures of cats for use in association with their aims to promote high scientific and educational standards of feline medicine and surgery and to improve the health of the nation’s cats. Some of these pictures may also contain images of a child or young person e.g. a child with his/her pet dog or cat.
- We will not use an image unless consent has been given by the subject child and a parent, guardian or carer
- Full names and addresses will not be used in association with a published picture of a child. Any caption will be limited to first name and country or country e.g. Paul from Durham
- Personal details (e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, postal addresses etc) of the child/young person will never be published
- Images of children will only be used if in suitable dress
- Pictures will not be used of children on their own and will only be used where the picture shows the child/young person in association with an activity, other people or pet(s)
- Images will always be screened before appearing on any media format
